“The World of Knowledge”
IV International Film Festival of popular science films.

IV International Film Festival of popular science films “The World of Knowledge” is going to take place in October (19-23), 2009 in Saint-Petersburg, Russia. Festival’s organizers: “Lennauchfilm” film studio, National Committee “The Intellectual Resources of Russia”, under the support of The Russian Ministry of culture and Saint-Petersburg’s committee on culture.
Purposes and targets:
- Interest increase towards Russian popular science films.
- Strengthening of the traditions of international dialog between scientists and cinematographers so as to solve the acute problems of modern science, culture and new technologies development.
IFF “The World of Knowledge” may become one of the symbols of the national educational project and confirm the necessity of federal educational TV channel creation.
Festival’s program includes International competition and special programs.
- International competition
Popular science, educational, television and animation films that are not longer than 60 min in duration and have been produced between 2007 and 2009 are accepted.
Are formed beforehand and according to the discretion of the film festival’s organizing committee.
Materials’ transfer, returning of copies, insurance.
Copies of the films should be sent to the organizing committee of the film festival not later than September 1, 2009. The owner of the film bears all the expenses on the transfer and insurance of the film. Videocassettes and DVDs which were sent for the selection remain in festival’s archive.
Invitation
Directors of the selected films will be invited to take part in the work of the film festival. The organizing committee of the festival pays for the accommodation and food for one representative of the film. All the participants of the festival pay for their road expenses themselves. If the director of the competitive film doesn’t have an opportunity to take part in the work of the festival, the invitation can be given to another member of the film crew.
Participation rules
The dead line for demand acceptance – September 1, 2009 (the date is defined by the postage stamp on the parcel). To take part in the competitive selection you should hand in:
- entry-form,
- director’s photograph,
- shots from the film,
- videocassette (DVD)
Audiovisual products on the 35 millimeter film and with optical soundtrack, on DVD and Betacam can take part in the programs of the film festival. The order of the film display is defined by the organizers of the festival.
Selection and formation of the program will be finished in the end of September and will be published on the Festival’s site (www.lennauchfilm.ru)
The films that got the prizes of the festival will be added to “The Collection of The International Film Festival “The World of Knowledge”.

For the estimation of the International competition International jury is formed and it awards the following prizes:

Television and Internet broadcast
Participation in the film festival presupposes the right transfer on the broadcasting of films’ fragments on Russian and foreign TV channels (10% of the film time and not more than 3 minutes long). The same rights are presupposed for the Internet broadcast.
Participation in the Film Festival “The world of Knowledge” presupposes the fact that you agree with the conditions of the regulations.
